Many people may think or are told by the other flooring companies that an oiled floor is a high maintenance floor.
Here is my answer. Your new oiled floor is not a high maintenance floor. However, you do have to use some specials cleaners and you do have to re-oil high traffic areas ones every few years (3-5 years) so your floor looks as new again.
Here is a good comparison I have been thinking about for some time.
When you buy a new car, you probably want it to be beautiful and reliable. To make sure it continues to be that way you take it to a car wash AND change the engine oil every 5 to 10 thousand kilometers.
Same with your oiled floor, you clean it and re-oil high traffic areas.
You might say, that a polyurethane finished floor does need no regular maintenance. Yes, this is true. However, a polyurethane finished floor does need to be re-sanded and refinished every 10- to 15 years.
Not your oiled floor, that you keep clean and re-oil. The only time you would want it re-sanded and refinished is when you want to change the color.
Coming back to the car example. To make sure your new car lasts, you clean it and change the engine oil at least. You do not run it without changing the oil and then buy a new car in a couple of years because the engine is killed.
